TruthOrBluff is a free educational resource for homeschool families. A child reads a short article, then plays a quiz. Each question shows 4 statements. Exactly 1 is true. The answer screen names the true statement and explains the error in each of the other 3.
The quiz is a game. The child is trying to catch the false statements. The reading is the lesson. The site runs in a browser on a phone, tablet, or computer. There is no app, no account, and no fee.
How to use it in a lesson
One topic takes about 20 minutes.
- Open a facts page and choose Rookie (ages 8 and up) or Curious (ages 12 and up).
- Read the opening definition and the key facts at that level.
- Play the quiz at the same level. The child picks the one true statement.
- Read the explanation. Each wrong statement includes the specific error.
A parent can read the facts page aloud with a younger child, then take turns on the quiz. Siblings can play as separate players. The game supports 1 to 10 players.
Levels
The same topic exists at four reading levels. Match the level to the reader, not to the subject. A younger child can study sharks at Rookie. An older student can study the same topic at Sharp.
- Rookie (ages 8+). Simple, widely known facts. Great for kids and casual family play.
- Curious (ages 12+). Interesting facts most people wouldn't know. Good for teens and casual adults.
- Sharp (ages 16+). Obscure facts that require real knowledge. For trivia-savvy adults.
- Expert (ages 18+). Deep-cut facts even enthusiasts may not know. For serious trivia buffs.
